ROBIN HILL PUBLIC SCHOOL

Robin Hill is a growing K-8 school located in Norman. The School Board and Administration put a priority on providing adequate storm shelter space for the entire student population. Another significant problem was the lack of functional restroom facilities for the students. The school has a waiting list for enrollment and needs classrooms. Historically the school has dealt with enrollment increases by adding portable classrooms, but the property is now filled up and land locked. Robin Hill needed a solution, and they have come to expect more from an architecture firm as exemplified by the site design and project scope which resulted from our campus planning process. To address these needs, Principle Design worked out a plan that relocated some of the portable classrooms to make room for a building addition. The solution a new 6,000 square foot addition that includes four new classrooms that are designed as ICC-500 compliant Storm Shelters. Included are modern restrooms to accommodate not only the required occupancy of the addition, but large enough to provide the campus with centrally located, accessible restrooms. They also did not have a proper teacher’s workroom space anywhere on campus, so this was also included in the plan. The project is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed by Summer 2024.
